Keftaro deplores the Congressional 'Syria accountability act' legislation
Syria-USA, Politics, 10/11/2003

Syria's Grand Mufti, Sheikh Ahmad Keftaro, has denounced the so-called "Syria Accountability Act" legislation by the US Congress that is being considered to sanction Syria.

In a statement yesterday, Keftaro stressed that "Syria's rejection to the hegemony, to everything that could hinder the peace process, and to consider the legitimate resistance as 'terrorism' is the reason behind the Syria Accountability Act."

He called on the world nations to "support Syria against the Israeli aggression which is considered a flagrant violation of the UN charters and a representation of the Israeli policy's inability to subjugate the Palestinian people and to compel it to accept the capitulate solutions."

He also called on the Arab and the Islamic nations to unify ranks to face the imminent dangers stressing that "hegemony contradicts with the nations' rights to self determination and freedom."
