Palestine-Israel, Politics, 10/9/2003
The new Palestinian prime minister Ahmad Qrei was subjected to pressures opposing the formation of an emergency government on the Palestinian arena, especially inside the Fatah movement, and decided to introduce his government today at the legislative council in order to win its confidence for an ordinary government.
Meantime, Qrei expressed in an interview published yesterday in the Israeli daily Ma'ariv his optimism over the possibility of negotiations and reaching a cease fire agreement with Sharon. He said "I think I can work with Sharon and it is possible to reach real changes and results." He added addressing the Israeli government "I hope to work with your government and to reach a cease fire agreement. Give us the chance to stop the deterioration."
He said "I will spare no effort to ease down the situation. We are ready to implement all our obligations in the Roadmap on condition that Israel also honors its obligations."
Meantime, Palestinian sources said that three Israeli soldiers were wounded yesterday evening in an attack carried out by Palestinians in Hawara town to the south of Nablus. The sources said that two of the soldiers were strongly wounded.
On the other hand, the Israeli army detained in Jenin area Camilia, wife of Amjad al-Obeidi, one of the military leaders of the Islamic Jihad movement which is accused of being behind the recent suicide operation in Haifa.
On the other hand, the Palestinian ministry of agriculture reported that the occupation forces leveled during the three past days 160 dunnums ( 40 hectares) of the agricultural lands where greenhouses are built in Rafah to the south of Gaza.
