Head of Cuba's inter-people friendship visits Morocco
Morocco-Cuba, Politics, 10/8/2003
Head of Cuba's institute of inter-people friendship, affiliated to the communist party, Luis Morejon Soto, said his country wishes to promote ties with Morocco. Soto made the statement during a meeting with speaker of the House of Representatives (lower chamber), Abdelouahed Radi.
The two men exchanged viewpoints on developments in the two countries, especially on the Moroccan Sahara issue which the Moroccan official explained "is a sequel of colonization and the cold war." Radi also traced back the history of the conflict and the opinion issued by the International Court of Justice which ruled that the tribes of Moroccan southern regions had allegiance ties with the Kings of Morocco.
He also recalled how several south American countries had, over the last years, withdrawn their recognition of the puppet Sahara Republic, self proclaimed by the Algeria-backed Polisario that claims the independence of Morocco's southern provinces.
He said the south American countries' decision was made after they were informed on the real stakes of the fabricated conflict. Soto, who is visiting Morocco at the invitation of the Moroccan Party for Progress and Socialism, said he will relay to officials in his country precious information he obtained about the issue of Morocco's territorial integrity.
