Obeid - Ivanov joint press conference
Lebanon-Russia, Politics, 10/8/2003

Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov has expressed his country's concern over the Israeli escalation of tension in the Middle East and the expansion of the Israeli - Palestinian conflict to include neighboring countries.

During a press conference in Moscow yesterday with Lebanese counterpart Jean Obeid, Ivanov stressed the necessity for convening an international conference to discuss the peace process in the Middle East, including the Syrian and Lebanese tracks.

Obeid, for his part, referred to the dangers of Israeli policies which aim at exporting the internal crises to neighboring countries Lebanon and Syria through the daily aggressions.

He added that any country, which wants to achieve peace in the region, must force Israel to halt its aggressive policy inside and outside Palestine.

He stressed that "Madrid terms of reference" and "Beirut Arab Initiative" are the basis of the just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue and to the restoration of the Lebanese and Syrian Lands.
