Washington: accusing al-Amoudi of transferring money to Hamas in Syria
Regional-USA, Local, 10/2/2003

The US judiciary alleged that the American Islamic activist of Yemeni origin Abdul Rahman al-Amoudi transferred money to the Islamic resistance movement Hamas and the Islamic Jihad movement in Syria, according to a list of accusations by the court on Tuesday.

The accusation read that al-Amoudi who was arrested several days ago at Dallas airport in Washington upon his return back from London was carrying 340,000 dollars he received from Libya and intended to transfer it to Syria "where groups like Hamas, the Islamic Jihad and several member of al-Qaida organization had sneaked to Iraq from Syria," the accusation alleges.

Al-Amoudi said in the investigations that the money he received from an Arab person in London with a Libyan accent was for "the Islamic- American society" which he presides over.

Judge Teireiza BioKanan ordered holding al-Amoudi in custody until his trial. Al-Amoudi (51 year old) is facing a penalty that might reach 10 years imprisonment in case he is convicted. In addition to the new accusations addressed to him on Tuesday, he is also accused of financing persons and terrorist organizations. One of the documents in the court read that the society branch which he presides in Portland, Oregon transferred money to two persons accused of planning to travel to Afghanistan to fight the Americans there.
