Guardian: US and UK plots to undermine Syria; Call for stopping US acts and threats
Syria-UN, Politics, 9/29/2003

The civil campaign in support of Palestine and Iraq in Beirut has called UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan to prevent the use of the UN by great Powers to exert pressures on states that oppose them. In a memo sent to Annan today, the campaign expressed its concern over the "Syria Accountability Act" considered by US Congress, stressing that the non - interference in the affairs of others is a basic principle of UN.

The campaign called the UN to ask USA to stop its threat and blackmail against any country that opposes its policy.

Meantime, a report by the UK Guardian last week spoke about US and UK efforts to plant fake evidence against Syria as pretext to attack it. The report said "Nearly 50 years before the war in Iraq, Britain and America sought a secretive 'regime change' in another Arab country they accused of spreading terror and threatening the west's oil supplies, by planning the invasion of Syria and the assassination of leading figures."

The report added "Newly discovered documents show how in 1957 Harold Macmillan and President Dwight Eisenhower approved a CIA-MI6 plan to stage fake border incidents as an excuse for an invasion by Syria's pro-western neighbours."
