Khaddam confers with member of the Iraqi governing council

Syria's Vice President Abdulhaleem Khaddam received in Damascus on Sunday Secretary General of the Iraqi National council and member of the Iraqi Interim Governing Council, Eyad Allawi.

Talks dealt with the situation in Iraq and its repercussion on future of the Iraqi people and on the region.

Viewpoints were similar regarding enhancing the national unity and avoiding any attempt aiming at weakening this unity for being the base for the restoration of Iraq's sovereignty, independence, ending occupation and building institutions of a constitutional state on the base of free election.

Khaddam underlined Syria's care for the fraternal relations and for Iraq to restore its Arab and international role and to end the occupation.
