Gamal Mubarak to reviews NDP policies
Egypt, Politics, 9/27/2003
Egypt's National Democratic Party (NDP) Policy Secretary Gamal Mubarak said Friday that the NDP Secretariat is keen on working with the government to guarantee the greatest possible participation in drawing up the state's policies.
Gamal Mubarak, while presenting a full review of the different NDP policies, said the Party Secretariat over the past year has worked to open up dialogue with the youths to learn all about their ambitions and with civil society institutions to also learn about their views on different issues.
He underlined that the Party's concept mirrored a modern trend to deal with the problems facing the entire society with the aim of solving them to achieve revival in all domains.
Gamal Mubarak said that political activities are not confined to the NDP adding that anyone with a clear vision could partake in the political activities. Both the NDP and the government have crystal-clear and well-established principles and concepts, he added.
The NDP Policy Secretary, Gamal Mubarak, spoke of a new thinking by the NDP envisioning an Egyptian society where citizens are held in esteem and where all the categories of the people have a role to play. The Party believes that the society must enjoy freedom of expression and must be self-confident, he said.
The majority of the Egyptians are moderate and shun extremism and isolation, he said.
The majority rejects violence and believes in a future in which all Egyptians would participate, Gamal Mubarak said.
Speaking of the six main issues taken up by the 8th NDP Congress, he said that the Party is committed to a package of policies that will complete and develop the education system and develop its curricula to interact with the society.
The success of the package of policies needs more funds through private contributions, he said.
The NDP Policy Secretary, Gamal Mubarak, said the Party is exerting every possible effort to change and improve the economy so that every citizen will be given a job opportunity to lead a decent life. The Party also calls for changing and developing the state's institutions, he said.
The freedom of the market's mechanisms does not mean chaos or the absence of a role by the state, which must step in whenever there is a need to protect the limited-income citizen, he said. The strength of our economy lies in opening up to the outside world, he said. The Party believes that Egypt's success will not be completed unless openness up to the outside world is entrenched, the NDP policies secretary, Gamal Mubarak added.
Gamal MubaraK said the NDP has addressed the problems of overpopulation, health care, medicine and health insurance. He conceded that overpopulation was devouring all development revenues. He called for developing health insurance system through private contributions and promised that the party would sustain its full support for the production of local drugs and medicines.
On the issue of women and youths, he said the Party believes in their positive contributions to every sector in the state. He added that the NDP Secretariat is keen to debate three new topics of vital importance. The first is the issue of preserving agricultural lands and urban development, the second is the future of transportation in Egypt and the third is the right of citizenship and democracy.
The NDP believes that development cannot be effectuated by the government alone. Development needs a full partnership between the government and the citizen, he said.
Concluding his speech at the NDP general session, Gamal Mubarak said that the Party is determined to face up all challenges, with a view to serving and benefiting all citizens without discrimination and giving all Egyptians a fair chance to prove their abilities and merits.
