Musharraf will not send forces to Iraq
Iraq-Pakistan, Politics, 9/24/2003
President of Pakistan Pervez Musharraf said that sending Pakistani forces to Iraq during the current conditions will cause him loss of popularity in the country.
In a statement to the US ABC news in New York, Musharraf indicated that it would be easier for him to send forces to Iraq under the umbrella of the UN but he refused to announce his commitment to send forces even in case the UN takes a decision to this effect. However, he added he will discuss the question of Iraq with the US President George W. Bush when meeting with him during this week at the UN.
Musharraf said that the US invasion of Iraq deeply wounded the feelings of the Muslim world. A matter which makes it difficult for the Pakistani Muslims to support the USA.
