Gates: Egypt largest area Microsoft covers

Head of Microsoft Company Bill Gates Sunday sent an e-message to President Hosni Mubarak on the occasion of opening the "Smart Village" in Egypt.

In his message, Gates congratulated the Egyptian President and Egypt on the inauguration of the Smart Village project, saying it was not strange for Egypt, the cradle of civilization and the maker of great history, to establish such venture project only a few kilometers from the Pyramids of Giza.

"Microsoft Company is totally linked to the Smart Village and has invested large sums in its headquarters which includes many main units of the company," he said. "The building includes a center for supporting developers in the Middle East and Africa which will be a great source of support for the Egyptian economy through export," he added.

He asserted that Egypt was lucky to have such leaders who have a clear vision of the role that technology plays in the society, not only through developing such industry locally, but also through modernizing the performance of the government and developing education.

The company's branch in Egypt moves side-by-side and as a main partner with the Egyptian government's efforts in the fields of e-government and the Microsoft Academy for Partners, in addition to supporting the various local companies," he said.

Egypt is considered one of the largest areas Microsoft covers and all personnel at the company's Egyptian branch are equally proud of such achievements, he said, voicing hope that the Smart Village would have full opportunity to become a bright start of technology in the Middle East.
