Telephone lines opened between the UAE, Israel
United Arab Emirates-Israel, Politics, 9/20/2003

Citizens of the United Arab Emirates were able yesterday for the first time to make telephone calls to Israel, in a step preceding the convening of the meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund next Tuesday and Wednesday in Dubai, where an Israeli delegation is taking part in the meetings.

Very often, citizens of the UAE can telephone the Palestinian territories via code 970 followed by the code of the required Palestinian city, however, it has become possible now to telephone Israel via its special code number which is 972 to be followed by the code of the required Israeli city. Previously, it was possible to phone to the UAE from Israel. It is not clear if such accommodations will end after the international conference.

The Israeli flag was also hoisted among scores of other flags at the conferences hall in Dubai for the first time.
