Teaching of Berber language to be generalized by 2008

The "Amazigh," a Berber language spoken in many parts of Morocco, will be taught by 2008, in all primary and secondary schools in Morocco, announced a government report released here Wednesday.
The report by the Ministry of National Education and Youth, released on the occasion of the start of the school year, said the teaching of Amazigh will be done step by step in all primary and secondary schools of the country by the year 2003.
The first batch of Amazigh teachers will undergo training during the academic year (2003-2004), said the ministry which will work in coordination with the Royal Institute of the Amazigh Culture to achieve this goal.
The official language in Morocco is Arabic.
