Group of 14 newly-elected councilors arrested on illegal meeting

A group of 14 freshly-elected councilors from the northeastern town hall of Nador were arrested this Tuesday in a residence in Bouznika Bay (40 km south of Rabat), as they were gathered by the outgoing town hall president, Tarik Yahya, for breaches to the electoral code, the interior ministry said.

The group was arrested for breaching the electoral code and the joint memo of the interior and justice ministries provisions that seek to guarantee voting freedom and equality between candidates.

The source said investigations have started and results will be notified to the general prosecutor.
