US accusations to suppress Syria's political position
Syria-USA, Politics, 9/16/2003
A report by the New York times said the US is ready to reiterate past charges against Syria about weapons of mass destruction, at a time when the US is increasingly hard pressed to justify its past allegations and action.
The US, who is seen as using the issue of "weapons of mass destruction" as a mere political tool to beat up countries that strongly oppose it politically in the region on a host of issues, have in the past repeatedly lied in making false allegations when when it attacked Sudan, under pretext of chemical and biological weapons development, as shown by US official governments reports. Later, the US did the same against Iraq. There are recent reports that the US is attempting to prevent a disclosure of a report about the US allegations used against Iraq to justify attacking it.
The Jamahiriya news agency, spoke about the report by the British newspaper the Sunday Times that Britain and the US have decided not to publish the final and complete report about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq as the report concluded that no such weapons exist in Iraq and there is no evidence whatsoever of their presence.
The British newspaper the Sunday Times said that the report is a result of efforts made by an Anglo American team which consists of 1400 scientists and military and intelligence experts who were working in Iraq during the past four months to discover any chemical or biological weapons. But the team didn't succeed to find weapons or evidence about them.
The accusations against Syria are seen by some as a cover by the US government for the false allegations it made against Iraq in that there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, and now, the US wants to claim that such weapons must be hiding somewhere or transferred to Syria. Worth noting that the US government as under great deal of pressure, and accusations against Syria are seen as one way of diverting attention from reality.
Worth noting that the US most recently held up Syrian soldiers and then released them, and attacked a Syrian civilian bus in Iraq on its way to Syria the US claimed was carrying Iraqi officials, allegations that proved false. Syria demanded the US apologies for the killings of the Syrian citizens.
