Two Americans killed by Iraqis; US soldiers kill 11 Iraqis
Iraq-USA, Military, 9/13/2003
Ten members of the Iraqi security forces and one Jordanian personal guard were killed by the American occupation bullets in Falouja in a massacre that resulted in provoking great anger in the lines of citizens of the city.
Iraqi police officers said that some 11 persons were injured; five police men, and five Jordanians and one Iraqi working in the Jordanian military hospital in Falouja.
For the second time in two days, Iraqi police men were killed by American bullets. On Wednesday, one Iraqi police man was killed and another gravely wounded by the American bullets whose convoy was exposed to an attack at the entrance of the city of Falouja.
According to the commissioner in the Iraqi police Qahtan Adnan Ahmad, a unit composed of 10 members of the security forces and five police men was chasing yesterday at dawn a car carrying gunmen when it was exposed to intensive fire by American forces positioned near the Jordanian hospital near the entrance of the city.
Hamad added that the 10 members in the security forces were killed by the US soldiers positioned near the hospital and the five police men were injured and admitted to hospital.
A Lt. in the Jordanian army said that the Jordanian security guard who was killed on Thursday evening at the Jordanian hospital in Faloija, was one of the escorts of the hospital's director and was killed by US soldiers. He added that the five Jordanians and one Iraqi who were injured, were workers in the administrative department of the hospital which was hit by machine gun fire in clashes which lasted for three hours.
However, a state of great tension is prevailing as angry citizens gathered in front of the headquarters of the governnorate and the police headquarters demanding the return back of bodies of the killed security men which the US did not hand over yesterday to their families. News reports said that the governor of the city gave his orders to take the bodies of the killed persons to al-Ramadi hospital before handing them over to the families of the killed persons.
US secretary of state Colin Powell yesterday telephoned his Jordanian counterpart Marwan Muasher and offered him condolences for the killing of members of the Jordanian security men in the Falouja attack.
In a statement yesterday, the American army said that "one US soldier, in addition to five neutral members were injured " in an incident that took place in Falouja near the Jordanian hospital when the American forces positioned there were exposed to fire from a car carrying unidentified gunmen. It was not clear whether the American statement was talking about the same "incident."
Witnesses said that three Iraqis including two female children were wounded by fire of the American forces yesterday after one of its patrol was hit by an explosive in the downtown of Falouja and this pushed the occupation soldiers to open fire indiscriminately to prevent any one from coming close.
In a separate attack, the American army said that two of its members were killed and other 7 wounded in a raid launched by one of the occupation units in al-Ramadi.
Witnesses said that the breaking in operations in the city was dramatically converted into a fierce fighting when the occupation soldiers broke into a house inhabited by gunmen. The witnesses added that three Iraqis were killed in the attack.
Another eye witness said that one Iraqi civilian was killed and another wounded by the American occupation bullets in Karkouk following an attack against the occupation forces.
