Al-Thawra: Syrian facilitation for trade with Iraq
Syria-Iraq, Economics, 9/11/2003
The Syrian government has taken a new measure to encourage transit trade with Iraq by reducing by half the transit fees of trucks from and into Iraq.
The Syrian official daily al-Thawra said that the minister of transport Makram Obeid issued a decision in this regard for crossing from Yaroubeyah or Abu Kamal crossing to the Syrian ports or to the border crossing with Lebanon or via-a-vis, or to destinations inside Syria.
Worthy mentioning that a relatively active trade is being conducted between northern Iraq and Syria. Syria is also considered a crossing for the Iraqi goods heading for al-Musil. Such a trade business, was restored back recently at the American consent, due to the Iraqi market's lack of good.
