Some 15 Israelis are killed in two attacks in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv
Palestine-Israel, Military, 9/10/2003

Two strong explosions took place yesterday and resulted in 15 dead, most of them soldiers, and scores of wounded. Four days following a failed Israeli attempt to assassinate the founder of the Islamic resistance movement Hamas, Sheikh Ahmad Yassin and another leading figure in Gaza.

At least 7 Israelis were killed and other 50 wounded in a large explosion targeting a cafe in Western Jerusalem yesterday midnight. The Israeli radio said the explosion took place in a street crowded with restaurants and cafes.

This explosion comes four hours after another one in a bus station near a military base in al-Ramleh area to the south east of Tel Aviv and resulted in killing 8 soldiers and wounding other 30, 15 of which are in critical health conditions, according to Israeli medical sources. Tel Aviv attack resulted also in killing its executor who was wearing a military uniform.

While an Israeli official held the Palestinian President Yasser Arafat responsible for the two attacks, it was announced that the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon, severed his visit to India after he had received a call from the Israeli defense minister in which he briefed him of recommendations by leaders of the security departments to retaliate the attacks.

An official at Sharon's office said that Israel "will take necessary measures to defend its people in challenge of the fact that there is no will in the Palestinian authority to dismantle resistance groups. Political circles expected the answer to target Hamas leaders and the occupation army to invade Gaza.

Few hours before Tel Aviv's operation, the Israeli occupation forces killed three Palestinians including a boy in the city of Hebron, West Bank. The Israeli radio said the occupation forces found two bodies in the remains of a residential building demolished by the Israeli forces earlier in the day under the pretext that it was sheltering gunmen.

A Palestinian security source said that the leader of Ezz Eddine al-Qassam group, the military wing of Hamas in Hebron, Ahmad Bader, was killed with Abed Misk., one of his associates during the Israeli forces incursion in certain quarters of the city yesterday at dawn.

The Palestinian child Thaer al-Sayouri ( 13 year old) was killed by the shells of an Israeli missile following an eruption of fighting with the Palestinian resistance in the city.

In Toulkarem camp to the north of the West Bank, an Israeli military force invaded the area yesterday evening. Palestinians from the camp said that the Israeli forces opened fire intensively against the camp which they have cordoned from all sides.
