Arab FMs accepts governing council as to have Iraq seat at AL

Following intensive discussions, the Arab Foreign Ministers have reached a decision that accepts the demand of Iraqi Governing Council to occupy Iraq's seat at the Arab League with adequate conditions.

The meetings of the 120th session of the Arab Foreign Ministers started today in Cairo with the participation of Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara, the Arab Foreign Ministers and Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa.

The participants discussed the Iraqi demand presented by the Iraqi interim Governing Council to attend the meeting of the current session.

The Arab Foreign Ministers, after reviewing the situation in Iraq and its repercussions on the Arab, regional and international situation and following studying the demand presented by the Iraqi interim Governing Council to occupy Iraq's seat at the AL decided to accept the Iraqi Governing Council demand to occupy the representatives of the transitional government in Iraq, Iraq's seat in the AL for temporary period of time until a legitimate Iraqi government is formed and a new constitution is drawn up.

The decision also said that the transitional Governing Council should submit an clear timetable to the League Council on the ministerial level in its next meeting to carry out the former conditions.

The decision also stipulated that the Secretariat General of the AL should coordinate with the Security Council and the Iraqi transitional governing council in order to achieve the former targets and to put an definite timetable to end the occupation and to restore the Iraqi people sovereignty.

The decision also stipulated that AL Secretary General should follow-up the Iraqi situation and present a periodical report to the League Council on the ministerial level on the development of carrying out this decision.

The agenda of the meetings of the current session of the Arab Foreign Ministers includes 16 items on the top of them the situation in Iraq and in the occupied Palestinian territories and the Arab-Israeli conflict in addition to activating joint Arab action in the political, economic and social fields.

Worth noting that Libya did not send its foreign minister to attend the consultation or primary meetings on this decision.
