A message from al-Assad to Saleh conveyed by Khaddam

Syria's Vice - President Abdulhaleem Khaddam on Saturday paid a short visit to Yemen during which he conveyed a message from President Bashar al - Assad to Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

In pre-departure statement at Sanaa airport, Khaddam said that viewpoints with President Saleh were identical on the necessity for rebuilding an Arab active and true solidarity in the Arab arena.

"Talks dealt with the Yemeni initiative, it is one of the subjects put forward for discussion," Khaddam told reporters about the formation of a united Arab states organization. "We hope that an Arab meeting will be held and it will give birth to a new Arab formula, new Arab vision based on integration and unity," he added.

About Syria's and Yemeni' stances towards the situations in Iraq, Khaddam stressed that talks dealt with this point deeply. He made it clear that Iraq now lives an ordeal and the situation will be increasingly critical unless the complicated situation is dealth with in a way that leads to Iraqi independence and establishing an Iraq with constitutional bodies.

He added that Arabs should express their will to help dismiss the foreign troops out of Iraq and to enable the Iraqis to select their political system and determine their future.

The two sides focused on the Iraqi question and the danger of this crisis on Iraq and Arab states' future, stressing the importance of preserving the Iraqi national unity through enabling the Iraqi people to build their state without any foreign interference.

The Yemeni president and Khaddam discussed the bilateral relations and the importance of boosting these relations through activating and developing them in various fields.

In statement to the reporters upon his arrival in Yemen, Khaddam stressed that his visit to Yemen and to a number of the Arab capitals aim at holding discussions and consultations regarding the current Arab situation and the dangers facing the Arab nation.

Responding a question on the initiatives regarding the Arab League's development, Khaddam said that after more than a half century of the establishment of the AL charter, there should be a review to this charter in line with new Arab vision that enables to Arabs to deal with challenges.
