Sheikh Yassin, Henya survived assassination attempt in Gaza, al-Qassam groups calls for striking the enemy everywhere
Palestine-Israel, Military, 9/8/2003

Al-Qassam brigade, the military wing of the Hamas movement, vowed "to strike the enemy everywhere and by all available means." This was in retaliation to the failed assassination attempt which targeted Sheikh Ahmad Yassin and the leading figure in the movement Ismael Heny in Gaza on Saturday.

Israel is seen to have violated all red lines when it sent on Saturday an F-16 fighter plane which bombarded a building in the downtown of Gaza where Yassin and Henya were existed. As a result Yassin was wounded in his hand and shoulder and other 15 Palestinians were wounded including 6 children. A matter which provokes the Palestinians who demonstrated in the hundreds of thousands in all parts on Gaza.

Marwan Abu Raas, the owner of the house which is composed of three flours and was exposed to the Israeli aggression and wounded in the attack said "the missile destroyed the upper flat of his house just minutes after Yassin and Ismael Heny, another official in Hamas, had left the house after they heard the sound of the Israeli jet."

Yassin said to a group of his angry supporters in a mosque in Gaza, addressing Sharon "you will pay the price of this crime." He added "our people will not raise the white banner and the Israeli entity will be removed."

As for the reply to his assassination attempt, Sheikh Yassin said it is the specialty of the military wing of the Hamas movement, Ezz Eddine al-Qassam group. He said "the Brigade decides when, where and how, and this issue is linked to the military wing." Al-Qassam brigade "called on all its cells in the Palestinian territories to declare state of alert to attack the enemy everywhere and by all available means."

In a statement the group said "we call on all our cells in Jerusalem, Hebron, Nablus, Ramullah, Toulkarem and Gaza and all our villages and cities to declare "the state of utmost alert and organized planning to strike the enemy everywhere and by all available means."

Meantime, the office of the resigned Palestinian prime minister Mahmoud Abbas issued a statement in which it says that Israel seizes the chance of a crisis of the Palestinian leadership, noting that such "brutal acts will only return back the situation to the vicious cycle of violence."

On the other hand, Palestinians fired yesterday several mortars at Neve Dakalim settlement in Gaza and this only resulted in material losses.

Palestinian medical sources announced that a Palestinian youth, Muhammad Abdullah Abu al-Hina, of the Hamas movement died of wounds he had on Saturday to the East of Jabalia, and the Israeli army prevented ambulances to reach him until he died.

Meantime, three Israeli soldiers were wounded when an explosive went off in the outskirts of Gaza, according to an Israeli military source. The soldiers were in a jeep car running on the border between the lands of 1948 and Gaza near Kisovim crossing when the explosion took place.
