Former Moroccan POWs stage campaign in Canada for release of those in captivity
Algeria-Canada, Politics, 9/6/2003

A group of Moroccan former prisoners of war who were held in captivity by the Polisario separatist group in southwestern Algeria will be staging next week in Canada a campaign to draw awareness to the world's longest-serving prisoners of war.

The campaign will target Canadian non-governmental organizations and public opinion on the tragic detention of hundreds of Moroccans, in total defiance of international law and the Geneva convention.

The campaign is organized by the national and social association of children of martyrs and missing people of the Moroccan Sahara and two associations of Canada-based Moroccans.

The group will meet Canadian officials, human rights-advocacy associations and give lectures on the detention conditions in the Polisario jails.

A fund-raising reception will be held with proceeds that will finance the association activities.
