Gulf, Politics, 9/6/2003

Gulf Cooperation Council GCC secretary general Abdul Rahman Bin Hamad al-Ateyah said that the ministerial meeting of the GCC foreign ministers is being held amid extraordinary developments in the region in general and in Palestine and Iraq, in particular.

He added in a statement issued yesterday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia that the GCC states will discuss and debate these developments and take necessary decisions that would avert the region tensions which destabilize the region's security and prosperity of its people.

Al-Ateyah stressed that the GCC foreign ministers will discuss during their meeting on Sunday in Jeddah latest developments in the region. They will also discuss international economic relations and means of developing and revitalizing them as well as several issues pertinent to the march of common cooperation among the GCC member states.
