Rabat appeal court adjourns to monday case of French terrorist-led group
Morocco, Local, 9/5/2003
The appeal court of Rabat decided Wednesday to adjourn to Monday the case of the French terrorist-led group as the French national, Pierre Robert, was feeling bad and was unable to attend the trial any longer
Pierre Robert's group includes thirty-four individuals who are being sued for alleged involvement in the terrorist attacks that shook Casablanca May 16, 2003. Robert, alias Abu Abderrahmane alias Lhaj, is the first foreigner suspected of involvement in the blasts. The court rejected on Wednesday all of the procedural problems cited by the attorneys of the French national, Pierre Robert, and the 33 other individuals.
The court ruled that it has the competence to judge the case in accordance with the anti-terrorism law that entered into force last May 28.
The defense argued that the criminal acts for which their clients were standing trial took place before the law enactment and that some counts held against them, like weapons' possession, was part of the competence of military court.
The group is facing charges of participation in robbery, swindling, use of fake administrative documents, criminal association to commit terrorist acts, making and holding explosive devices, inciting others to commit terrorist acts, holding unlicensed public meetings and activism within non-authorized associations.
