Five Latin-American countries reiterate support to Morocco in Sahara issue
Morocco-Regional, Politics, 9/5/2003
Five Latin-American countries, namely Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, have reiterated their support to Morocco in the Sahara issue
These countries' stand was expressed by top officials at meetings with Morocco's non-resident ambassador to Mexico, Youssef Amrani, who toured them at the end of his diplomatic assignment.
The Latin-American officials also voiced admiration at the kingdom's efforts, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI.
In his farewell tour, Amrani met the president and vice-foreign minister of Nicaragua, the minister of foreign affairs and culture of Costa Rica, Salvador's deputy-foreign minister, the foreign ministers of Guatemala and Honduras and secretary general of the System of Central American Integration (SICA).
During the meetings, the Moroccan diplomat discussed with the officials bilateral political, economic and trade relations, and means to enhance them further.
Morocco and the countries of the region had signed in 1999 a memorandum of understanding and of political consultation between their foreign departments.
