Syria-Regional, Politics, 9/5/2003
Syria's Deputy General Leader of the Military and Armed Forces, Deputy Premier and Defense Minister, First Major General Mustafa Tlass has stressed that Syria, with all Arabs, strongly adheres to the peace process in the region based on UN relevant resolutions and international law.
In a dialogue with Sudanese al-Anbaa newspaper published yesterday in Khartoum, he made it clear that Syria welcomes each diplomatic effort that seeks to achieve just and comprehensive peace.
He called Europe and the world to play a wider role in order to achieve peace in the region and to oblige Israel to yield and adhere to the just basis of peace. He stressed that the visits paid by President Bashar al-Assad to a number of European states constituted a key factor in developing and stabilizing the Syrian - European relations in the interests of achieving peace on the basis of the "Madrid terms of reference."
"Syria welcomes each Arab effort that can lead to just and comprehensive peace based on UN relevant resolutions which include the Israeli withdrawal from all occupied territories to the line of June 4, 1967," Tlass added.
