Textile represents 14% of Moroccan industrial output

The textile clothing sector represents 14 percent of the overall industrial production in Morocco with 8 billion Dhs (US $800 million) of added value, i.e. 15 percent of the industrial added value, the trade and industry chamber of Casablanca (CCISC) said.

In an economic report synthesizing the progress scored in various socio-economic realms in Morocco, CCISC underlined that the textile sector brought some 2 billion Dhs (US $200 million) investments, that is 14 percent of industrial investments and 34 percent of industrial companies' exports.

The chemical and para-chemical industries, the report goes, contribute with 32 percent to the industrial production and with 33 percent to the GDP and provides 23 percent of job positions

The report also points out to tourism as a key sector in the Moroccan national economy, adding that it is a promising sector thanks to the private and public sectors' efforts to diversify tourism products.
