Al-Arab al-Youm: Jordanian judicial source: chasing Chalabi ends only by arresting him
Jordan-Iraq, Politics, 9/3/2003

A Jordanian judicial source stressed that the handing over memorandum issued since 1990 against member of the Iraqi interim governing council, Ahmed Chalabi, who is accused of being behind the collapse of the Petra Bank and financial misdealing is still valid, and that its validity ends when Chalabi is arrested.

In a statement to the Jordanian daily al-Arab al-Youm issued yesterday, the source said that the accusations addressed against Chalabi are mainly looting are economic crimes, and that the Jordanian judicial sources will officially address the Interim Governing Council in Iraq in case Jordan approved the legitimacy of the council in order to take measures for handing over Chalabi.

Worthy mentioning that Chalabi who is wanted by the Jordanian Judiciary for fleeing justice, according to the Jordanian law, had also a verdict issued against him in Lebanon because he had looted tens of millions of dollars which resulted in the bankruptcy of the Lebanese Mambco Bank.

Some 32 Jordanian parliamentarians issued a memorandum in which they called for convening a special session for the Jordanian parliament to discuss the collapse of Petra bank and recommending handing over Chalabi, the first convict in this case to the Jordanian judiciary via the Interpol.
