Three Palestinians murdered by Israel; continued failed efforts to undermine Arafat
Palestine-Israel, Military, 9/3/2003
Israel's defense minister Shaoul Mofaz has renewed his proposal to alienate the Israeli President Yasser Arafat shortly, while the Israeli occupation forces killed one member of the Islamic Jihad movement near Jenin and two Palestinians died of their wounds they had during a raid on Gaza.
Mofaz told the Israeli army radio that "Arafat constitutes a great obstacle before the Palestinian prime minister Mahmoud Abbas and any political operation." He added "the Palestinian leadership which the world recognizes today is Abu Mazen and the security affairs minister Mohammad Dahlan and the finance minister Salaam Fayyad." Moufaz accused Arafat "He never intended to conclude and agreement with us." He indicated "I believe he needs to disappear from the stage of history."
Israel has been taking extreme measure to undermine Arafat who is in his headquarters besieged for several years and harassed on an ongoing basis by Israel, with Israel and the US trying to undercut his authority, which according to a USA Today report that describes Arafat as still being viewed by Palestinians as their true and only elected leader.
Meantime, sources close to the Islamic Jihad movement said that Abdul Qader Dami, ( 28 year old) from Toulkarem was killed by the Israeli bullets. Israeli military sources said that the killed man was in a rent car stopped by the Israeli military men at a check point near Fahma village, 12 Km to the south of Jenin in order to carry out ordinary inspection measures. The sources added "the soldiers approached the car and the Palestinian went out of it carrying a pistol and the soldiers opened fire and killed him." The Israeli soldiers arrested another Palestinian in the car to interrogate him. The military sources said that the soldiers found in the car a machinegun.
The Israeli army said that Daami is the author of the suicide attempt which took place in Kfar Yafas to the north of Tel Aviv on July 7th. Palestinian security sources denied the Israeli version, stressing that he was "not armed." The sources added the " army stopped him, he got out of the car and the soldiers killed him." On the other hand, Palestinian medical sources in Gaza said that a Palestinian female child ( 11 year old ) died yesterday morning because of her wounds she had one week earlier in an Israeli raid which targeted members of the Hamas movement.
Palestinian medical sources also announced the death of a Palestinian of his wounds in a raid carried out by Israeli helicopters in Gaza. The sources said that "Riad Lutfi Saleh, 29 year old, died on Tuesday because he was hit in a raid against Gaza on Monday." Al-Qassam group announced yesterday its "reply (reaction) will be very soon" against the Israeli "crimes." This was after the killing of one of its activists in a raid against Gaza on Monday.
