Sahrawi tribe celebrates return of notable from Polisario camps
Morocco-Algeria, Politics, 9/2/2003
The tribe of Azerguiyine held here on Saturday a ceremony to celebrate the return of a notable, Abdellah Ould Lahcen Oummayssa, to Morocco in response to the royal call "the homeland is clement and merciful," that promises exemption from sanctions and questioning to those who choose to flee the Polisario-controlled camps back to their homeland.
Several notables of the tribe were present at the ceremony which provided for the assistance an opportunity to highlight the importance of Oummayssa's return that put an end to years of suffering in the Lahmada camps (Algeria) where the sequestered population is waiting an opportunity to return to their homeland.
"Those sequestered in the camps are looking forward to return to Morocco," Oummayssa told MAP.
Oummayssa's relatives highlighted the role he played in facing Polisario separatists' tyranny, deploring the suffering and blatant human rights violations in Tindouf camps (southwestern Algeria) where some sequestered died in prisons.
They voiced hope to see the other sequestered people follow the example of Oummayssa, to live in their country where citizens enjoy freedom and rights and to bring to a halt their suffering.
