Athletics: Morocco's gharib wins marathon gold

Jawad Gharib on Saturday made a titanic effort to offer Morocco a gold medal in the marathon, a premiere in the history of this country, better known as a breeding-ground of mid-distance racers. Gharib clocked 2.08.31, ahead of a Spanish and an Italian racer.
This is Morocco's second gold medal in the 9th World Championships, after the one won by Hicham El-Guerrouj on 1500 m. El-Guerrouj is expected Sunday for the 5000 M final.
