Hizbullah intercepts Israeli warplanes in south Lebanon
Lebanon-Israel, Military, 9/1/2003
Fighters of the Lebanese Hizbullah party intercepted two Israeli warplanes which violated the Lebanese airspace yesterday.
The anti- aircraft missiles of the Lebanese resistance opened fire at the two planes which were not hit. In a statement, the Hizbullah party said the two warplanes flew over the areas of Marjyounb, Hasbaya and al-Khayyam in south Lebanon.
People in the area said that Israeli planes broke the sound barrier over parts of south Lebanon and the eastern Bekaa plain.
Hizbullah fire killed earlier in August one Israeli settler in a settlement near the Lebanese border. A matter which pushed the Israeli planes to raid the outskirts of Lebanese villages in the south. By the end of July, Hizbullah threatened Israel of "painful" reply if its warplanes continue to violate the Lebanese airspace. A matter which is discouraged by the UN.
