First attack against the Bulgarians in Iraq
Iraq-USA, Military, 8/30/2003

The central American leadership announced that one American soldier was killed and other three wounded in an attack in which anti- tank RPJ missiles were used in al-Sueidat area near Baqouba city to the north of Baghdad. Witnesses said the attack targeted an American convoy in the area.

Witnesses also said that several American soldiers were wounded in an attack targeting them in the downtown of al-Ramadi city to the west of Baghdad. They explained that "an explosive went off under two American vehicles which were running near Saddam Grand mosque in the downtown of al-Ramadi " and the explosion "resulted in destroying one of the two vehicles and damaged the second."

In Tikrit, the American leadership announced that the leader of the Iraqi police in the city Talab Shamel Ahmad survived an assassination attempt on Thursday that resulted in grave wounds in his guard after his car was exposed to a fire on the road between al-Sameraa and Tikrit. Ahmad is the fourth police leader in Tikrit because the American forces expelled the three former leaders because of their inefficiency.

An American procession near a mosque in the downtown of al-Falouja was also exposed to a fire attack of which two soldiers were wounded. The occupation forces carried out a campaign of arrest in the north and downtown of Iraq along the past 24 hours and detained 25 Iraqis said to be supporters of the former regime.

An explosion took place near the headquarters of the British forces in al-Basra targeting the main entrance of the headquarters which resulted in destroying two cars, 100 meters from the previous Presidential palace of Saddam on the banks of al-Arab river which passes through al-Basra.

On the other hand, the Bulgarian defense ministry announced that Bulgarian soldiers of the force deployed in Iraq were exposed to an attack by mortars and bombs in the city of Karbala and this attack resulted in no casualties. This is, however, the first attack on the Bulgarian force which is composed of 500 soldiers since its arrival in Iraq earlier on August.
