Israel wounds 16 Palestinians in Nablus, Palestinian authority freezes social organizations assets
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 8/29/2003
In response to American and Israeli pressure, the Palestinian authority froze the assets of social foundations belonging to the Hamas movement in Gaza, while 16 Palestinians were injured in Nablus and Jenin by the Israeli forces which continued to impose curfew on the old town of Hebron and demolished five shops in Eastern Jerusalem.
This is however, the first tangible measures against Hamas taken by the government of Mahmoud Abbas who has been exposed to great pressure by Israel and the USA to move against resistance groups.
A source in Hamas said that the "Palestinian authority froze the assets of 40 large and small enterprises including the Islamic complex establishment which was founded by the founder of the Hamas movement, Sheikh Ahmad Yassin, the Islamic society and the Islamic Salah society."
