One British killed, 13 American wounded in attacks; Kurdish- Turkman agreement to avoid confrontation

Iraq's Kurds and Turkmans yesterday signed an agreement aimed at avoiding ethnic and religious confrontation in future, at a time when 13 American soldiers were injured in several attacks by the Iraqi resistance, when one British soldier was killed and another wounded in clashes with Iraqi citizens to the southern part of the country.
Meantime, the occupation forces army generals said they do not need additional forces, rather intelligence support from the Iraqis.
The representative of the Kurdistani National Federation in Ankara Nahrous Jalali said yesterday that the agreement was signed on Tuesday in Karkouk between the federation and the united Turkman front, just days after the killing of 11 persons in Kurdish- Turkman clashes in the same area.
Jalali said "we need peace and stability of the region." He explained that the agreement states to form a joint committee aims at bringing in "criminals" to justice and stresses the right of all religious and ethnic groups to live peacefully and in fraternity." The agreement also promises to give financial aid to families of the clashes killing and to continue dialogue.
A British military spokesman said that one British soldier was killed and another wounded badly in his hand on Wednesday in Meisan province, southern East Baghdad in clashes with an angry group of Iraqis after two persons were detained. He added that 10 persons were detained following the clashes.
The American army said that five US soldiers were wounded on Wednesday by mortars bombardment to the north of Baghdad airport.
A spokeswoman for the occupation forces said that 4 American soldiers were wounded in an attack which targeted them near al-Falouja to the west of Baghdad. Following the attack, hundreds of Iraqi went out in a demonstration in which they hailed the toppled Iraqi President Saddam Hussein and denounced the US President George W. Bush.
An American spokesman also said that a convoy for the occupation army was exposed to fire resulted in wounding four soldiers on the road between al-Balad and Karkouk to the north of Baghdad. The spokesman said "they were attacked by three or four men in a Datsun truck"
