Top Muslim cleric denies fatwa on IGC recognition

In statements to Middle East News Agency(MENA), Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Sheikh Mohamed Sayed Tantawi said the Iraqi ulama (religious scholars) are the ones entitled to say their word on the recognition of the Iraqi Interim Governing Council (IGC) because they know better than us .
He said: ÒIf asked by the Iraqis themselves on the Interim Governing Council, from a religious perspective, I would asd the Iraqi scholars, who are the only ones to be asked on this matter.Ó
ÊÊÊ A scholar from the Azhar fatwa committee Tuesday made a fatwa on the impermissibility of dealing with Iraq's IGC.
