Israel kills one Palestinian, 16 wounded, houses demolished

The government of Ariel Sharon following the air raid on Gaza which caused the death of one Palestinian and wounding other 23rd, escalated its attacks against the Palestinians in several cities and towns in the West Bank. This resulted in killing one Palestinian, wounding 16 and demolishing one house and detaining 20 Palestinians.

Israeli sources said that the soldiers who guard Raheel tomb in an occupied area of Bethlehem opened fire at the Palestinians when he approached them holding a knife. But Palestinians said they saw no knife in his hand. A Palestinian doctor said that the Israeli soldiers prevented an ambulance he was riding to have access to the place.

Before this incident, witnesses said that a group of Palestinians threw stones at Jews who arrived in a bus to perform their prayers at Raheel tomb, an area which has been witnessing a lot of confrontation during the Intifada.

In Nablus, the Israeli occupation forces continued for the second running day operations of house demolishing and detention especially in the old town, when it had detonated a Palestinian house. Witnesses said that the explosion resulted in wounding several children and to the collapse of many of them from fear. The Israeli forces arrested five Palestinians and took them to an unknown destination.

One the other hand, Palestinian witnesses and medical sources said that 16 Palestinians were wounded in Ramullah in clashes between the occupation soldiers and demonstrators after the Israeli soldiers closed the offices of the People's Front For Liberation of Palestine in the city. The occupation soldiers opened fire at the supporters of the Front who gathered at al-Manara square to commemorate the 2nd anniversary of the assassination of the Front's secretary general Abu Ali Mustafa in an Israeli raid on August 27, 2001 in Ramullah. An Israeli military sources said that 15 persons mostly supporters for the people's front were detained for inquiries.
