Moroccan women encouraged to massively run for election in local poll

Several Moroccan political parties joined together to sign a "Pact of Honour" whereby they undertook to endeavour for a massive participation of women in the local elections Morocco will hold on September 12.

The parties are: the Istiqlal Party (PI), the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP), the Socialist Democratic Party (PSD), the Democratic Forces Front (FFD), the Constitutional Union (UC), the National Rally of Independents (RNI), the Party for Progress and Socialism (PPS) and the National Democrat Party.

Under the Pact, these parties pledge that women will account for at least 20 percent of candidates fielded in the local poll. They also pledged to make females top candidacy lists and secure them best chances to be elected to local councils.
