Abbas notifies AL of appointing Shaath instead of al-Qaddoumi
Palestine-Regional, Politics, 8/27/2003
The office of the Palestinian foreign affairs minister Nabil Shaath stressed yesterday that prime minister Mahmoud Abbas asked the AL to appoint Shaath as an official representative for the Palestinians in the meetings of the Arab League instead of the chairman of the PLO political bureau Farouk al-Qaddoumi.
A source at the office of the Palestinian minister said that the "Palestinian prime minister Mahmoud Abbas recently asked the Arab League to have the foreign affairs minister in the Palestinian Authority Nabil Shaath be a representative for Palestine in the meetings of the AL."
The source added that "this step is part of distributing work between Palestinian foreign affairs minister Nabil Shaath and the chairman of the PLO political department."
Worthy mentioning al-Qaddoumi is in the post of the foreign minister "of the state of Palestine." He presides over the Palestinian delegation to the meetings of the Arab foreign ministers and Shaath attends beside him.
