Morocco's Islamist party calls for mobilization to face plots against Morocco's integrity
Morocco, Politics, 8/26/2003
Morocco's sole Islamist Party, the Party of Justice and Development (PJD), called Saturday for a general mobilization to defend Morocco's territorial integrity and face the ignoble schemes of Morocco's enemies aiming to destabilize and balkanize the (Maghreb) region to achieve their expansionist aims.
Several PJD officials, who were convening a rally on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Revolution of the King and the People, said "the Sahara question is taking a decisive turning point that requires constant mobilization behind king Mohammed VI to face the threats and plots aiming to undermine Morocco's territorial integrity."
PJD Secretary General, Abdelkrim El Khattib, recalled the sacrifices of late King Mohammed V and the national movement for Morocco's independence, underscoring that it is important to draw lessons from this heroic struggle to guarantee the preservation of national assets and the defense of major national causes.
Evoking the speech of King Mohammed VI on the day of the Revolution of the King and the People (marked on August 20), he said the speech was a call for mobilization to organize a march of young people in southern provinces similarly to the Green March to foil enemies' theses and conspiracies.
The Late King Hassan II called for the Green March on November 6th, 1975 to liberate the Moroccan Sahara from Spanish occupation. Some 350,000 marchers from all over Morocco crossed the artificial borders and proclaimed the return of the Sahara to Morocco.
PJD Deputy Secretary-General, Saad Eddine Othmani, underscored the necessity for a general mobilization and permanent vigilance to halt the "artificial conflict" that was created by Morocco's enemies, denouncing the position of Algeria "whose maneuvers against Morocco are no longer a secret and which aim to hinder all projects for building the Arab Maghreb."
For his part, Abdelilah Benkirane, member of the party's general secretariat, pointed out to the conspiracies of the enemies of Morocco's territorial integrity who use Polisario separatists to balkanize North Africa, serve their colonialist plans and sow discord and instability in the region. In the same vein, he called on Algeria to immediately release the Moroccan sequestered in Tindouf camps.
In a speech read out on behalf of the Party's youth, Mustapha Mochtaraki said perfecting Morocco's territorial integrity requires from the youth the recovery of the two Moroccan cities occupied by Spain, Sebta and Mellila and the Jaffarine islands and bringing to a halt the artificial conflict of the Moroccan Sahara.
The real battle, he said, should be waged against the enemies of Morocco's territorial integrity which requires from political parties, organizations and associations to work for the inauguration of a fresh era of trust, entente and joint action.
The PJD youth called for making further efforts for a better communication with the youth in southern provinces and to unravel human rights violations perpetrated against the Moroccans sequestered in Tindouf camps.
