Sudan-Regional, Politics, 8/26/2003
The secretary general of the Arab League Amr Moussa yesterday in Cairo discussed with the chairman of the Sudanese Umma party al-Sadeq al-Mahdi current conditions on the Sudanese arena and the efforts made to achieve stability in Sudan and preserving its unity, and territorial integrity.
In a statement he made yesterday following the meeting, al-Mahdi said he had briefed Moussa on several proposals prepared by the Umma party with the aim to achieve progress in the negotiations between the Sudanese government and the rebels movement which were stumbled recently.
He explained that these proposals included 36 amendments on the document which was proposed by IGAD's secretariat to previous negotiations.
He indicated that among these amendments is a proposal to keep the Sudanese armed forces and rejection to form two armies in Sudan and establishing one central bank, that has branches in the south.
