NGO says French association report on Moroccan POWs is only part of horrible reality
Morocco-Algeria, Politics, 8/23/2003
The revelations of the French association "France Liberte" that denounced the imprisonment of Moroccan prisoners of war in inhumane conditions, is only a part of an irreversible reality in Tindouf sequestration camps, the Association of Defense of Sahrawi Refugees in Tindouf (ADESETI) said.
The Stockholm-based NGO noted in a release made public on Thursday that the overwhelming report of the French association has created a "climate of nervousness between Polisario leaders" and their acolytes who "blindly defend their theses like the Spanish university professor, Carlos Ruiz Muguel, and the French Martine de Froberville," chairwoman of a pro-Polisario association.
The report of France Liberte, which is led by Danielle Mitterand, spouse of former French President Francois Mitterand, and which reveals the "beastly treatment," the moral and physical torture and the exploitation of Moroccan detainees by the Polisario, is only a "part of the despicable image of torture in Tindouf, ADESETI stressed.
"Our NGO has unceasingly denounced this situation which is contradictory to Geneva conventions and the international human rights charter," ADESETI spokesman, Alamine Yahia said in the release, urging "all NGOs, institutions and world personalities to urgently interfere to bring to a halt the unbearable situation in Tindouf camps and prisons."
In a 52-page report recently published by France Liberte, the association accuses Algeria and Polisario of serious violations against Moroccan detainees in Tindouf and Blida (respectively south and northern Algeria).
