Demonstration in al-Azhar in support of the Intifada, against Iraq's occupation
Egypt-Iraq, Politics, 8/23/2003

Hundreds of Egyptian worshippers in al-Azhar mosque gathered following Friday's prayers yesterday to take part in a demonstration of protest against the American occupation of Iraq and in support of the Palestinian resistance.

News reports said that the demonstrators chanted slogans in which they condemned the deteriorated situation in Iraq and the continued occupation of the Iraqi lands. They called on the Arab and Islamic and the international society to stand in support of the Iraqi people in their crisis.

The demonstrators also denounced Israel's decision to permit non- Muslims to visit al-Aqsa mosque, considering that the decision aims at "undermining the holiness of the mosque and hurting the feelings of Muslims."

The demonstrators also expressed their support for the Palestinian resistance against Israel.
