The Bible, myth and realities: Monotheism, Moses, circumcision, and other practices
Egypt, History, 8/21/2003

An Egyptian report said: At the outset, it is worth mentioning to talk about the writer of the book Guy Rachet who authored more than forty compositions topping "Dictionary of the Egyptian civilization."

Rachet probes a question about the secrets behind the complete negligence of the Egyptians to every Jewish as there is no pharaonic writings, or papyrus about the story of the exodus of the Jews from Egypt.

He also wonders about the reasons behind the historic hatred of the Israeli writers to every Egyptian although Egypt was the land of honey, milk and security to the Jews as the Torah says.

Guy Rachet mentions the story of the ancient library of Alexandria in 323 and the emergence of the Polemic family in Egypt.

By time, Demetrous told Patlaimose II to translate the laws of the Jews so the king ordered of gathering 72 scientists to translate the Torah into the Greek. By the time, the Jews in Egypt believed that the Egyptians and the Greeks are trying by all means to change the Jewish culture into the Greek.

Guy Rachet added that the Jewish philosophers started to write the history of the Jews in Egypt and they changed the story of Moses into agony of the Jews which Rachet described as Egypt phobia.

Guy Rachet said that this period witnessed the collection of the oral Jewish heritage full of horrors of the misery of the Jews in Egypt known as the Meshna.

The problem -- according to Rachet -- is that Felavious Joseph, one of the Jewish philosophers in Alexandria, had a grudge against philosopher Maineton, the sole Egyptian working in the library.

Joseph displayed a few chapters of the aeggytiaca which reported the history of the pharaonic dynasty. The goal of Joseph was to scold the Egyptian people and Egyptian pharaohs.

Egyptian or Hebrew

The author reviews the efforts of the archeologists to trace the stories of Filon and Flavious Joseph about the prophets of Moses and Joseph.

The research was conducted in Egypt, Syria, Palestine, Jordan and North of Arabia.

The results of the research can be mentioned as follows:

1-The discovered remains refer to its era not to specific people.

2-Number of the historians and archeologists- known as minimalists- believe that the scientific and historic significance of Torah terms must be underestimated as Justa Ahlestrom who believes that the history mentioned in the Torah is of Palestine not Israel.

Ahlestrom added that the word of Israel was only mentioned once in the pharaonic tablet of Mernebtah which indicates to the Kanany location south of Palestine.

Then Rachet mentions the American historian Peter Lemche who links the Egyptian complex in the Torah to the current Arab-Israeli conflict.

Archaeology and anti-Semitism

Peter Lemche displayed the deliberate mentioning of Israel in the history of relations in the ancient Orient that was dominated by Egypt till the end of the 18th dynasty.

In a book titled "Ancient and modern Israel," Lemche considers the problem of the researchers in the history of the Torah is that they were always accused with either anti-Semitism or anti-Zionism which obstructed the objective scientific researches.

Lemche and other concerned scientists gave a pivotal role to the influence of Egypt on the Jewish thought as they copied the habit of circumcising the males which were prevailing among the Egyptians.

The psychologists used this habit to prove that the Jews who left Egypt with Moses were Egyptians.

Philip Davis, professor of Shiveild University, was the first scientist to classify the Israeli history into three categories:

1-The torah Israel that only existed in the minds of the Torah writers.

2-The historic Israel that was only a geographic location, not a state, according to the tablet of Mernbetah.

3- Ancient Israel which was created by the Israeli politicians for mere political reasons that have nothing to do with the pharaonic era.

Ramses and Hitler

Guy Rachet severely criticized the French writer Rafael Dary, author of the book " Exodus form Egypt and creation of liberty," saying that Rafael was ignorant when he described the Jews living in Egypt at the time of the pharaohs with those who were tortured in the Nazi crematory.

Rachet added that if the Jews were unhappy for living in Egypt, why they returned back to Egypt once again and how they assumed high posts during the Islamic era.

Rachet added that Rafael was also ignorant when he delineated Ramses II with Hitler as if he was sure that the pharaoh of Egypt during the time of Moses was Ramses II.

Rachet said that the Israeli stance towards Egypt emerges from the evidence that the prophet Moses was an Egyptian citizen as:

1-His name was an Egyptian name meaning "who gets out from water."

2-He was Arabic-native speaker.

3-The idea of monotheism was an Egyptian idea since the time of Akhnatom.

4-The order of Moses to circumcise the males -which was an Egyptian habit- can only be taken by an Egyptian Emir.

5-The lack of any Egyptian record about the story of Moses can simply be explained that Moses was living in peace with his people.
