Mauritania, Politics, 8/19/2003
The federation of the progress forces "Qiwa al-Taqaddoium," one of the important parties in Mauritania's opposition, announced withdrawal of the nominee for the presidential elections due to be held on November 7th and support for the nomination of former President Muhammad Khona Wild Hedalah.
The announcement was made following an agreement to establish a coalition of several members of the national forces to support nominee Weld Hedalah.
A Joint statement to this effect said that the step aims at achieving a state of law in Mauritania.
In a statement to the al-Jazeera TV yesterday, the chairman of the party Muhammad Weld Maoloud said that the party agreed with Weld Hedalah to establish a coalition to support peaceful alternative presidency on authority with all forces supporting such nomination.
Weld Maoloud explained that this coalition is concentrated on preserving civil peace and national unity and organizing a national reconciliation and ratification of constitutional reforms and establishing a state of law.
Mouloud stressed that the coalition program also includes reformulation of major economic and social options, drawing a foreign policy that reintegrate Mauritania with her Arab, African and Islamic environment and establishing a transitional national reconciliation government including all forces accepting this change.
