Security continued to deteriorate in Iraq, First Danish killed, Abu Gharib prison massacre

At Least some 11 Iraqis were killed and 59 Iraqis and 6 American soldiers wounded in various incidents in Iraq during the 24 past hours, while the first Danish soldier was killed working in the course of the coalition forces led by the USA.

The US occupation army said that 6 Iraqis were killed and other 59 wounded following mortars fire in Abu Gharib prison to the west of Baghdad, adding that an investigation was opened to that incident.

One Iraqi was also killed in al-Taji to the north of Baghdad when an American patrol retaliated fire and resulted in wounding two American soldiers. Two American soldiers were also wounded near Balad to the north of Baghdad and their miltary car was damaged as an explosive went off.

Witnesses said that one Iraqi was killed and another wounded in a mine explosion under a truck for the ministry of trade loaded with wheat near al-Ramadi city to the west of Baghdad, while on its way to al-Falouja.

One person was also killed and two Iraqi policemen were wounded following an attack launched by resistance fighters at the headquarters of al-Anbar province in al-Ramadi and the directorate of the governorate's police.

Witnesses said that five Americans were wounded when their procession which was composed of two armored vehicles and four jeep cars ran over three mines on the road between al-Ramadi and al-Khaledeyah.

Two American soldiers were wounded on Saturday by the resistance while leaving a restaurant in Baghdad and one American soldier was slightly wounded when his procession was attacked by RPJ anti-tank arms near Baqouba to the northern East of Baghdad.

The American army announced it has detained 12 members of Fedayee Saddam group near Baqouba to the north of Baghdad, according to information given by one of Iraqi intelligence. An American army officer said that no fighting took place during the detention operation as the Fedayeen were not armed.

Meanwhile, a British military spokesman said that two Iraqis and one Danish soldier were killed by bullets to the south of al-Basra during clashes between the occupation forces and thieves trying to steal electricity cables. The spokesman added "it is the first Danish soldier to be killed" in the war on Iraq. He added that the two killed Iraqis are two of 8 thieves, 6 of them were arrested.

A Danish spokesman quoted Danish soldiers from the patrol members questioned by a Danish investigator that the soldier ( 34 year old) may have been killed unintentionally by a colleague.
