Al-Shara meets with Shaath on Arab issues
Palestine-Syria, Politics, 8/18/2003

Syria's Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara received in Damascus on Saturday Palestinian foreign affairs minister Nabil Shaath and an accompanying delegation.

Talks during the meeting dealt with the "latest developments in the Palestinian territories and the deceit policy that Israel is practicing towards peace in the region," official Syrian news said.

In this regard, al-Shara stressed the importance of maintaining the national unity of all the Palestinian people based on the national stances represented by the Israeli immediate withdrawal from all occupied Arab lands and the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state with Jerusalem as capital.

In a statement to reporters following his meeting with al-Shara, the Palestinian Minister Shaath described the meeting as "positive and deep" speaking of the current difficult stage that face the Arabs as needing the highest degree of coordination and cooperation.

Talks also dealt with the role of the trio Syrian, Lebanese and Palestinian coordination in order to liberate the occupied Arab lands, he added.

Regarding the "racial separation wall" that Israel is building, Shaath said that" it is an attempt to extort the Palestinian people and to rob their lands" stressing that there are an American and international opposition against the establishment of this wall.
