Moroccan song, wins grand prix of Arab song festival

The Moroccan song "Dilal Achak" won Thursday the "microphone d'or" grand prix of the 11th edition of Arab Songs Festival held here this August 12-14.
The US $4,500 award was extended by minister in charge of relations with parliament, Saad Eddine Alami. The award for the best lyrics was attributed to Sudanese poet, Mahdi Mohamed Said.
The special award of the jury was extended to Syrian singer, Amal Arafa, Lebanese singer Nabih Sabri and Jordanian artist Hiba Abbasi.
The festival paid tribute to Moroccan singer Abdelhadi Belkhayat who sang some of his most famous songs.
In addition to Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, Egypt, Sudan, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, Yemen, Qatar, Oman and Bahrain took part in the festival.
The purpose of the event, that was organized under the aegis of the Radio Union of Arab States (ASBU), is to contribute to the promotion of Arab artistic production and the blossoming of new talents of ASBU member-countries.
The first edition of the festival was held in 1989 in Syria whereas the 2002 edition was organized in Jordan.
