Iraqi intellectuals call for freezing Iraq's membership to the Arab league
Iraq-Regional, Politics, 8/16/2003

Hundreds of Iraqi intellectuals yesterday addressed a message to the transitional governing council to "freeze Iraq's membership at the Arab league" for an indefinite time until the AL admits its tremendous mistake against the Iraqi people, apologize for that, and correct its bad stances towards the council and Iraq."

The message strongly attacked the "Arab regimes and their League" which they claimed "supported Saddam's regime until his collapse" and also carried out "moves and campaigns to stand against the process of toppling him by means of force."

The message added that "the majority of Arab mass media, especially its TV stations, dedicated themselves in defense of the ailing regime, and keeping silence about his regime and gave criticism of the Iraqi national forces which opposed this regime and worked to foil it."
