Jordanian court accuses Jordanians and Saudis of being terrorists
Jordan, Local, 8/15/2003
Attorney general of the Jordanian state security court on Wednesday accused 10 Jordanians and three fleeing Saudi Arabian citizens of carrying out terrorist acts and having unlicensed explosives as well as planning to carry out aggressions against American targets.
The Jordanian security authorities detained nine of the convicted persons in the case of the American embassy in January 2002 and released one of them later.
According to the list of accusations, the convicted persons agreed to carry out military operations against American objectives and they had intended to travel to Afghanistan for "Jihad against the Americans following the incidents of September 11, 2001" in the USA but when they were unable to go to Afghanistan, they agreed, according to the accusations -- to carry out military operations against the Americans.
The list of accusations indicates that the American embassy in Amman was among the targets of this group, in addition to monitoring air bases where the US forces are stationed.
The Jordanian security confiscated with the arrested persons RPJ over-the-shoulder antitank missiles. Worthy mentioning that after investigations, the detained persons will be brought before the state security court.
