Saudi crown prince vows to defeat evil forces
Saudi Arabia, Local, 8/15/2003
Saudi Arabia's crown prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz has vowed to attain his country's victory against what he called forces of evil. He also vowed to continue the campaign against what he called extremism and terrorism, and warned the citizens of the kingdom against the consequences of supporting what he had described as terrorists.
In statements quoted yesterday by the Saudi official news agency, the Saudi crown prince said "in the conflict between the forces of good and the forces of evil there is no place for neutrals. There is no way for innocents, except to stand against tyranny and corrupted forces in one of the holiest parts of the world, Mecca and al-Madina al-Munawarra."
For his part, the Saudi minister of the interior Prince Nayef Bin Abdul Aziz denied yesterday his country to have had any information indicated by Washington concerning a possible attack on planes working on Riyadh airport lines.
The Saudi minister explained that "the Saudi authorities have no definite information of a plan by terrorists to bomb or highjack a trade plane at Riyadh's airport."
The Saudi minister denied that "chasing operation which was made on Tuesday was because of information on a terrorist plan to attack or highjack a trade plane at Riyadh's airport." However, he indicated "the possibility that investigations will reveal certain information which might indicate the existence of terrorist schemes including planes high-jacking." The statements made by the two princes Abdullah and Nayef came after warnings from the US and Britain on Wednesday of new terrorist threats in Saudi Arabia -- which is considered the US main alley in the region and the world's largest oil exporting country.
Saudi Arabia, however, has launched a strong campaign against those whom it suspects of having links to al-Qaida organization following the explosions which took place in the capital Riyadh in May and resulted in killing 35 persons at least.
Washington had issued a new warning concerning travel to Saudi Arabia on Wednesday saying that it had received information over the risks against the American and western interests including civil aviation.
Earlier in the day, Britain said it had received intelligence information on security threats of British aviation targets in Saudi Arabia. The British Airways suspended its air flights to the kingdom.
